How do I password-protect a directory? You can restrict access to a directory in your website by password-protecting it. The steps are as follows:
Plesk 8.x or older
1) | Log into your Windows hosting control panel at http://admin.yourdomain.ca. |
2) | Click directly on the domain name at the bottom of the page. |
3) | Click on the "Web Directories" icon or the "Directories" icon under the "Hosting" section. |
4) | Click on the "Add New Directory" icon and enter a new directory name. This will be the new password-protected directory. If the target directory already exists, this step can be skipped. |
5) | Click directly on the target directory to navigate inside. |
6) | Click on the "Protection" tab and then on the "Protect" icon to enable password protection on the target directory. |
7) | Add user access to this directory accordingly. |
8) | Once user access is set up, the URL http://www.yourdomain.ca/targetdirectory would then be password-protected. |
Plesk 9.x
1) | Log into your Windows hosting control panel at http://admin.yourdomain.ca. |
2) | Click on the "Domain" icon and then click on the domain name. |
3) | Click on the "Password Protected Directories" icon under the "Files" section. |
4) | Click on the "Add Protected Directory" icon and enter a directory name. This will be the new password-protected directory. You should make sure the directory has already been created via FTP before performing this step. |
5) | Click directly on the target directory to navigate inside. |
6) | Click on the "Add New Users" icon. |
7) | Add user access to this directory accordingly. |
8) | Once user access is set up, the URL http://www.yourdomain.ca/targetdirectory would then be password-protected. |
Plesk 10.x
1) | Log into your Windows hosting control panel at http://admin.yourdomain.ca. |
2) | Select the desired domain from the "Subscription" drop down box at the top right corner (only if you have multiple domains). |
3) | Click on the "Websites & Domains" tab. |
4) | Click on the "Show Advanced Operations" link. |
5) | Click on the "Password-protected Directories" icon. |
7) | Click on the "Add Protected Directory" icon and enter a directory name. This will be the new password-protected directory. You should make sure the directory has already been created via FTP before performing this step. |
