How do I transfer a domain from one registrant to another?
This process is called an ownership transfer or a domain push. In most cases, a domain can be moved freely between registrants and between Namespro.ca accounts, providing that there are no restrictions placed on the domain by the corresponding registry. The process is free of charge, but it must be initiated by the current owner of the domain.
There are two roles in this process. One is the losing party (current owner of the domain) and one is the receiving party (future owner of the domain). Each party has different actions to perform, and these actions are described separately below.
* Please be advised that these actions do require clear and detailed explanation in order to avoid any confusion. However, they are very simple and quick to complete in actual practice.
i) If you are the receiving party (future owner of the domain)...

You must have a Namespro.ca account to accept the domain. This is the receiving account that the domain will be pushed to. If you already have an existing Namespro.ca account, please go to the next step. If not, please create a new one at https://www.namespro.ca/NewAccount.
2)
You must have a registrant profile within your Namespro.ca account to accept the domain. This is the receiving registrant that the domain will be attached to. In other words, this receiving registrant will be the legal owner of the domain after the domain push process is complete. If the receiving registrant already exists in your account, please go to the next step. If not, please create a new registrant profile by following steps a to d below.
a.
Log into the receiving Namespro.ca account.
b.
Click on the "useful tools" tab on the left menu.
c.
Click on the "start now" link that corresponds to the "create new registrant" tool.
d.
Follow on-screen instructions to create a new registrant profile.
3)
At this stage, you are ready to accept the domain. You should now have your own Namespro.ca account, within which contains the receiving registrant profile. Please log into the receiving Namespro.ca account (if not already), click on "my domains" on the left menu and click directly on the receiving registrant name. Make note of the receiving registrant ID, its admin contact's postal/zip code and your own Namespro.ca account email address (top left corner of the page).

Contact the current owner of the domain and inform he/she of the 3 pieces of information noted above (registrant ID, postal/zip code and the receiving Namespro.ca account email).

Upon receiving these 3 pieces of information from you, the current owner of the domain will then initiate the domain push via his/her own Namespro.ca account. If the push is successful, the domain will be attached to your own Namespro.ca account under the receiving registrant immediately. If not, further communication is required between the 2 parties.
ii) If you are the losing party (current owner of the domain)...

Similar to a bank money transfer, prior communication between you and the receiving party is necessary. A domain push can only be initiated when both parties are aware of and agree upon the process. Please understand that although we provide a domain push tool, we cannot mediate or facilitate any communications between you and the receiving party. It is the responsibilities of the 2 involved parties to negotiate, communicate and arrive at an agreement before proceeding.
2)
You must obtain 3 pieces of information from the receiving party, and they are the receiving Namespro.ca account email, the receiving registrant ID and the receiving registrant's postal code. If the receiving party has followed and completed the steps listed in section i) above, he/she will be able to provide you with these 3 pieces of information.
3)
Once you have obtained the 3 pieces of information from the receiving party, please log in to your Namespro.ca account (which must contain the domain to be pushed) and click on "useful tools" on the left menu.

Start the "domain push" tool and enter all required information and submit the request.

Our system will determine if the push is legitimate and complete the process in real time. If it is, the domain will be pushed to the receiving Namespro.ca account immediately and the process will be considered complete. Otherwise, an error message will be displayed, indicating the reason and the corresponding resolution.
Note
If you are pushing a domain within your own Namespro.ca account, then you are both the losing and receiving party. Please first complete the steps in section i and then initiate the domain push according to section ii. In short, you should have at least 2 registrants within your own Namespro.ca account (one containing the domain and one receiving the domain) before you can start the domain push tool.
If Namespro.ca is currently NOT the registrar for the domain in question, it is necessary to perform a registRAR transfer to bring it under our management. Please refer to KB-1001 (dot-ca's) or KB-1002 (non-dot-ca's) for more instructions on how to perform a registRAR transfer. In most cases, there is no need to perform a subsequent domain push because the domain can be setup directly under the correct registrant during the inbound registRAR transfer process.
